Miseno

Miseno

Miseno is a fraction of the municipality of Bacoli which owes its name to the legend that places here, the place where his unfortunate companion in adventure and trumpeter Miseno was buried by Ulysses, thrown into the sea and killed by a Triton (marine divinity). The hero baptized that place with the name of his beloved companion (Misenus) so that it would be remembered forever.
Its function as a maritime and military port was already established in the Cumana era. From it, in fact, with a well-equipped fleet, the Greeks of Cuma dominated the entire coast of Campania and Dionysius of Halicarnassus himself, tyrant of Cuma recognized that one of the circumstances that led to the naval power of the Cumaean territory was precisely the possession of the promontory and of the port of Miseno.
