Lucrino

Lucrino

Lake Lucrino was one of the most important lakes during the Roman era.
Originally it was much larger and separated from the sea by a single long and narrow strip of land, the famous Via Herculanea, built according to legend by Hercules on the occasion of his passage with the oxen taken from Geryon (tenth of the twelve labors of Hercules).

It was an enchanting place, with numerous thermal springs along its banks, a body of water full of fish and shellfish completely immersed in a beautiful countryside area surrounded by green hills where noble Roman families had built sumptuous villas.
