Monte Nuovo

Monte Nuovo

130 meters high, about 1 km in diameter at the base, Monte Nuovo occupies the western sector of the Gulf of Pozzuoli, the original geomorphology of which it interrupts. Bordered to the south by the coastline, to the west and north-west by the lakes Lucrino and Averno. To the north with the plain of Toiano, the crater measures an average of 400 meters in diameter and has a bottom that can be reached at a depth of 80 meters. The recent establishment of the Naturalistic Oasis of Monte Nuovo finally allows its preservation and use and makes it “an environmental monument”.
