Fusaro

This lagoon-origin lake communicates with the sea through two channels. One from the Roman era, the other wanted by the Bourbon king Francis II to facilitate the exchange of water within the lake. This area as early as the third century BC it was a vast swamp known as “Acherusia Palus”. Later, the Romans built numerous villas and spas on the shores of this lake. In the Middle Ages the lake was used for the maceration of hemp and linen becoming an “infusarium” hence the origin of the name.
