In three millennia of known history, the Phlegraean Fields have not suffered catastrophic events of particular magnitude, with the exception of the eruption of Monte Nuovo in 1538. This golden period has allowed the development of a civilization in an extremely fertile and welcoming place. The pride of the Samnites, Greeks and Romans, the Phlegraean Fields were also highly appreciated by all the rulers of subsequent periods.

Each domination has given monuments, pearls of civilization and stupendous architecture, many of which have fortunately still survived today.
