What is the “Towards the D.M.O.” project?

Tourism in the Campi Flegrei has extraordinary potential, but to make the most of it effectively, it is essential to adopt a strategic and coordinated management approach. “Towards the Destination Management Organization” is a project promoted by Campi Flegrei Active, with the aim of creating the conditions for shared management of the destination, fostering dialogue between tourism operators, citizens, and institutions.

The initiative is inspired by the best national and European practices of Destination Management Organizations (DMO), a tourism governance model that allows for the promotion, enhancement, and management of a territory in a structured way, optimizing resources and strategies.

Project objectives

Involve tourism operators to strengthen the local network and create a shared identity for the destination.
Stimulate discussion with local institutions, so they can evaluate the path towards establishing a Phlegraean D.M.O.
Create synergy with other destinations in Campania, to integrate the Campi Flegrei into a coordinated regional tourism system.
Promote sustainable tourism development that respects local identity and promotes authentic experiences for visitors.

Project phases

The project is developed in three operational phases, each designed to gather contributions from the territory and build a shared development path:

1️⃣ Listening to the territory

A cycle of thematic Focus Groups will involve tourism operators, organizations, and citizens in a process of discussion to identify critical issues, opportunities, and shared solutions.

2️⃣ Interregional Round Table – February 24, 2025

The Campi Flegrei will engage with other tourist destinations in Campania to share experiences and best practices, fostering the development of common strategies.

3️⃣ Presentation of results – February 27, 2025

The information gathered in the Focus Groups and the interregional discussion will be analyzed and presented to local administrations, operators, and citizens to define possible paths for shared tourism development.

4️⃣ Conference at the Mediterranean Tourism Exchange – March 13, 2025

During the BMT, a conference will be held where the destinations participating in the interregional discussion will present the results of the work carried out, creating a concrete basis for future collaborations.
