The Casina Vanvitelliana

The Casina Vanvitelliana

The Casina Vanvitelliana stands on the picturesque Lake Fusaro in Bacoli and is one of the most refined examples
of 18th-century Bourbon architecture. Designed by Luigi Vanvitelli in 1782 at the request of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon,
it was intended as a hunting lodge and a place of leisure for the royal court.

Its scenic location on a small island connected to the shore by a wooden bridge, along with its harmonious octagonal plan,
make it one of the most iconic landmarks of the Campi Flegrei.

History and Architecture

Commissioned by the Bourbon court, the Casina stands out for its neoclassical elegance and refined interiors,
decorated with stuccoes and precious furnishings. Over the centuries, it has hosted illustrious visitors, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,
who performed here on the harpsichord, as well as prominent figures from European culture and politics.

The structure, overlooking the lake and immersed in a landscape of extraordinary beauty, was recently restored and is now
one of the most visited attractions in the Campi Flegrei.
