Vi porteremo alla scoperta del Complesso Monumentale Terme di Baia.
Nulla al mondo splende più dell’ameno golfo di Baia – Scrisse Orazio. Qui ovunque sgorgavano sorgenti di acqua termale e sempre più i ricchi personaggi dell’antica Roma vi realizzarono le loro ville. Così, l’imperatore Ottaviano Augusto cercò di mettere ordine nella zona incaricando l’architetto Sergio Orata di inglobarle tutte in un unico complesso termale. Un complesso nel quale dedicarsi all’ozio e alla cura del corpo.
Partiremo dal cosiddetto criptoportico con ambienti utilizzati per la cura personale e, poco più avanti, la raccolta dell’acqua. Scopriremo la zona residenziale destinata alla passeggiata, denominata “Villa dell’Ambulatio”, da cui si scorge in lontananza il tempio di Diana. E ancora le terme di Adriano col meraviglioso mosaico che racconta la grande storia d’amore tra l’imperatore Adriano ed Antinoo; le affascinanti terme di Sosandra che ci condurranno alla parte inferiore degli scavi. Qui scopriremo una vera rarità che la natura ci offre con un ficus che affonda le sue radici in una volta e cresce verso il basso. La parte finale del tour ci porterà verso il tempio di Mercurio, conosciuto anche come “tempio dell’eco” per la sua incredibile acustica.
Il Parco archeologico di Baia rappresenta un vero e proprio unicum se si vuole provare ad immaginare la vita dei patrizi romani, durante l’età imperiale.

Nothing in the world shines more than the pleasant gulf of Baia – Horace wrote. Springs of thermal water flowed everywhere here, and more and more wealthy people of ancient Rome built their villas here. Thus, Emperor Octavian Augustus sought to bring order to the area by commissioning the architect Sergius Orata to incorporate them all into a single spa complex. A complex in which to indulge in idleness and body care.
We will start from the so-called cryptoporticus with rooms used for personal care and, a little further on, water collection. We will discover the residential area intended for the promenade, called the “Villa of Ambulatio,” from which the temple of Diana can be seen in the distance. And again the Baths of Hadrian with the marvelous mosaic that tells the great love story between Emperor Hadrian and Antinous; the fascinating Baths of Sosandra that will lead us to the lower part of the excavations. Here we will discover a true rarity that nature offers us with a ficus tree that sinks its roots into a vault and grows downward. The final part of the tour will take us to the Temple of Mercury, also known as the “echo temple” for its incredible acoustics.
The Archaeological Park of Baia represents a true unicum if you want to try to imagine the life of Roman patricians, during the imperial age.
