Descrizione in inglese :
We will start from Bacoli’s lakefront, tracing the events that saw the growth of the centrality of the Phlegraean Fields during the Roman Empire. The tour will continue to the historic center of Bacoli, where we will discover the “Sibyl,” a mural by renowned Campania street artist Jorit.
From the ancient center we will go to the discovery of the Piscina Mirabilis, the largest cistern for water supply ever built by Rome; a unique site whose conformation resembles a real cathedral. Its original function was to supply the Roman naval fleets stationed at Misenum, and was therefore filled with water up to the surface. Today, however, it is possible to walk through it and understand the greatness of the engineers who built it. The large quantity of water, making it second only to the cistern in Istanbul, reached its destination through a series of canals. The site built in opus reticulatum gives a magical feeling thanks to the suggestive beams of light that enter its interior because of the “windows” placed at the top. A scenario that enchants anyone who visits it, since the time of the 18th century Grand Tour of which we have clear written evidence on its walls.
At the end of the tour we will be welcomed by the Cantine Mirabili winery, a true oenological excellence of the Phlegrean territory, with a tasting of local wines.
