L’escursione avrà luogo tra due dei più importanti vulcani dei Campi Flegrei: inizieremo infatti il nostro viaggio dall’Oasi naturalistica del Monte Nuovo, un cratere che con i suoi cinque secoli di vita si impone come il più giovane vulcano d’Europa. Ne percorreremo le pendici, ci inoltreremo tra i castagneti e la classica macchia mediterranea, fino al raggiungerne la vetta. Da lì il panorama dei Campi Flegrei si aprirà davanti ai nostri occhi, rivelando la vera morfologia del territorio segnato da 40000 anni di eruzioni. Riprenderemo il cammino e, dal punto più alto, inizieremo la nostra discesa che, tra antichi vigneti, ci porterà alla “bocca degli inferi”: il lago d’Averno, uno specchio d’acqua che è stato da sempre protagonista di miti e leggende, e mostra le testimonianze delle ere che ha attraversato.

The excursion will take place between two of the most important volcanoes in the Phlegraean Fields: in fact, we will begin our journey from the Monte Nuovo Nature Oasis, a crater that, with its five centuries of life, stands out as the youngest volcano in Europe. We will walk along its slopes, penetrating through chestnut groves and classic Mediterranean scrub, until we reach its summit. From there the panorama of the Phlegraean Fields will open before our eyes, revealing the true morphology of the territory marked by 40000 years of eruptions. We will resume the path and, from the highest point, we will begin our descent that, among ancient vineyards, will take us to the “mouth of the underworld”: Lake Avernus, a body of water that has always been the protagonist of myths and legends, and shows evidence of the eras it has crossed.
