\u2014 due to the discovery of a statue of the Egyptian god, now at the MANN in Naples \u2014<br \/>\nthe complex was the <strong>macellum<\/strong>, the public market of wealthy Roman Pozzuoli.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dimensions:<\/strong> 58 x 75 m, with a large central courtyard paved in fine marble.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Central tholos:<\/strong> circular structure with octagonal fountain and colonnades in African pink marble.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cult hall:<\/strong> large apsidal room with cipollino marble columns, seat of the imperial cult and the protective gods of the market.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shops and services:<\/strong> decorated tabernae and monumental latrines that were long mistaken for thermal baths.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Bradyseism in Action<\/h2>\n<p>The most famous element of the Macellum are the <strong>columns perforated by lithodomes<\/strong> (marine mollusks), which bear witness to the cycles of subsidence and uplift of the ground.<br \/>\nThis &#8220;geological clock&#8221;
