Monte Nuovo

A crater formed over 24 hours during the last, extremely violent eruption of the Campi Flegrei in 1538. Today, Montenuovo is an oasis open to the public where you can walk along the edge of the crater to admire volcanic minerals and the typical fauna of the Phlegraean area.

Monte Nuovo is about a 15-minute walk from the arrival point. It is a nature trail that offers all the splendor of the Mediterranean scrub and a wonderful landscape. The walk does not present any particular difficulty. The elevation gain is around 100 meters, the route is about 3km, and it’s possible to complete the entire itinerary in about two hours. From Monte Nuovo, you can descend towards Lake Avernus for a total route of about 7km.

Lake Avernus

One of the five volcanic lakes in the area, and the only large one fed by a perennial freshwater source. Ancient myths placed the entrance to the Underworld right on the shores of the lake, where you can admire the large thermal structure known as the Temple of Apollo. A pedestrian path surrounds the entire lake, and during the walk, it is easy to spot various species of water birds.

Route suitable for a walk in nature. Along the shores of the lake, you can admire the Temple of Apollo.

Baia Underwater Archaeological Park

Located in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, in the Campi Flegrei, the Baia Underwater Archaeological Park is one of the most evocative diving and snorkeling sites in the world. In these waters, Roman-era buildings are still clearly visible, now submerged due to bradyseism, a volcanic phenomenon typical of this area. You can dive among the ancient pillars of Portus Julius, the splendid walls of the Villa of the Pisones, the statues and thermal areas of Claudius’ Imperial complex, and the still-intact mosaics of the Villa a Protiro, all surrounded by clouds of fish. Boat trips and snorkeling tours allow everyone to admire the sunken city.

Vineyards

Arranged on the Avernus crater, several vineyards—many of which feature ungrafted vines—offer the chance to taste typical Phlegraean wine in a truly unique setting, an oasis of peace overlooking the gateway to the “Underworld.”

Beaches

The entire coast is full of equipped beach clubs. Adjacent to the Cumana railway station, there is access to the free public beach.

Lido Giardino

In a magical, lively, and harmonious atmosphere, set between a blue sea and a clear sky, stands our beach club—a place where modern novelties blend with tradition to offer an original and attentive service, where high professionalism ensures a truly unique atmosphere.
